Cricket Rules
Basic Rules of Cricket
Cricket is played between two teams of 11 players each. The game consists of innings where one team bats and the other bowls and fields. The team batting tries to score runs, while the bowling team tries to dismiss the batsmen and limit the runs scored.
The fundamental objective is to score more runs than the opposition. Runs can be scored by hitting the ball and running between the wickets, or by hitting the ball to the boundary for four runs (ball touches the ground) or six runs (ball crosses boundary without touching ground).
Cricket Equipment
The essential equipment includes a cricket bat, ball, stumps, and bails. Understanding how to use this equipment is crucial to playing the game correctly.
Key Rules and Regulations
- Wickets: A batsman is out if the bails are dislodged from the stumps
- Overs: An over consists of 6 legal deliveries by a bowler
- LBW (Leg Before Wicket): A batsman can be dismissed if the ball hits their leg and would have hit the stumps
- No Ball: Illegal delivery that gives the batting team a free hit or extra run
- Wide Ball: Ball bowled too far from the batsman, resulting in an extra run
- Fielding Restrictions: Limited fielders allowed in certain areas during powerplay overs
